You wouldn’t think, after yesterday’s post and all the bookish arrivals, that I would need any more volumes coming into the Ramblings… However, having said that I don’t do much in the way of hauls anymore, I had to pop into town for a couple of bits today. And while I was out, I might have just fallen into the Oxfam bookshop with this result…
TBH, I don’t feel remotely guilty about picking up any of these! The Persephone is a title I don’t have, “House-Bound” by Winifred Peck, with its bookmark tucked inside – all for Β£1.99! “Sightlines” is a title I’ve heard praised over the years, and Jamie is an author I’ve wanted to explore, so this one was a must. As for the Ackroyd, I’ve read a lot of his fiction over the years, but not his non-fiction. The list of contents was most tantalising, so I hauled it round town with me (it’s quite a chunky hardback!) Β£7.47 the lot, and a bargain at that price!
Well, if the Zombie Apocalpse happens I’ll be well stocked with books if nothing else! Have you read any of these? Do any of them take your fancy?? ππ

Thatβs a fabulous addition, something to be proud of.
Dec 28, 2022 @ 16:23:20
I think so! It would have been criminal to leave them behind! π
Dec 28, 2022 @ 16:26:21
Gosh that was lucky! My local Oxfam shop sells Persephone books for at least Β£5.99!!
Dec 28, 2022 @ 16:28:52
I know!!!! I was really surprised, especially as it had the bookmark in it too. Very lucky indeed!!
Dec 28, 2022 @ 16:29:22
You know, you had no choice but to stop into the Oxfam store – think of the good you’re doing with those purchases! I’ve heard good things about House Bound, so I’ll definitely be interested in what you think of that one. The other two look interesting as well. Isn’t it great what you can find when you’re not even looking?
Dec 28, 2022 @ 17:50:21
Absolutely Margot – if I can help a good cause and buy books at the same time that’s a win-win as far as I’m concerned. None of these were books I was particularly searching for, but all had to come home with me – I do love random finds!!
Dec 28, 2022 @ 16:47:44
Sightlines is fantastic! The best of the three collections by Jamie I’ve read.
Dec 28, 2022 @ 17:48:15
That’s good to know! I’ve heard so much that’s positive about her writing that I had to snap this one up! π
Dec 28, 2022 @ 16:48:21
Love Kathleen Jamie’s work!
Dec 28, 2022 @ 17:47:48
I’m looking forward to reading her! π
Dec 28, 2022 @ 18:19:46
Sightlines is a treat!
Dec 28, 2022 @ 19:28:26
It certainly seems to get a lot of love!
Dec 28, 2022 @ 19:06:06
Sightlines is excellent, definitely worth picking up. Enjoy your books.
Dec 28, 2022 @ 19:28:10
Thanks for the rec! I’m looking forward to this one! π
Dec 28, 2022 @ 19:21:48
I don’t think you need to feel guilty, particularly as it’s for charity! You don’t often find Persephones for that price!
Dec 28, 2022 @ 19:27:52
Exactly! And a Persephone for that bargain price was not to be ignored!
Dec 28, 2022 @ 23:30:56
Random finds are just unexpected presents, aren’t they?π I used to read a lot of Peter Ackroyd, both fiction and nonfiction, and enjoy his other pieces when running across them, so that collection looks like an interesting book to dip in and out of.
Dec 29, 2022 @ 10:30:11
They’re just the best – which is probably why I love charity bookshopping so much! And the Ackroyd looks fascinating – such a range of different topics covered, and I love his writing! I shall be very happy dipping into it!
Dec 28, 2022 @ 23:47:43
LOL This is the fourth post I’ve seen about this ‘progress with the TBR’ strand being sabotaged!
Dec 29, 2022 @ 10:28:30
Well, I keep being determined to stem the incoming flow of books, but it just doesn’t work… π€£π
Dec 29, 2022 @ 21:19:43
Some things are just meant to be. It is ordained by the gods, and we must accept our fate…
Dec 30, 2022 @ 13:09:05
Exactly! Those books were destined for me… π
Dec 29, 2022 @ 05:18:20
Well…..one can never have too many books! And what is the point of going into town if you don’t pick a volume or two. Great additions !
Dec 29, 2022 @ 10:26:58
Absolutely not, and it would have been rude not to pop into the charity shops!!
Dec 29, 2022 @ 08:07:35
Kathleen Jamie is an author I’ve been meaning to read for the longest time. Hopefully 2023 will be the year.
Dec 29, 2022 @ 10:25:41
Well, I’d like to get to this one sooner rather than later – will try not to let it slip down the TBR pile!!
Dec 30, 2022 @ 15:19:44
I’m always so happy when I find a Persephone with the bookmark still inside! Sightlines is a lovely read π
Dec 30, 2022 @ 15:55:45
Me too, and it does happen rarely in my experience. As for Sightlines I had heard so much that was good about it that I couldn’t resist!
Dec 30, 2022 @ 18:21:44
Well I understand completely, having just received a massive pile of books for Christmas, I have already started spending the book tokens. House-Bound is very good from what I remember, great to find a Persephone with its bookmark. I read another by Kathleen Jamie, but not that one.
Dec 30, 2022 @ 18:33:02
I know *sigh* – it just can’t be helped, can it??? π€£ Totally understand your joy with the book tokens – they burn a hole in my pocket too when I get them!!
Jan 02, 2023 @ 10:17:19
Good work! House-Bound is great!
Jan 02, 2023 @ 14:23:53
It sounds good, so I couldn’t pass it up!
