Those of you who follow Simon at Stuck-in-a-Book will have seen his recent post flagging up the fact that we’ll shortly be co-hosting another one of our reading weeks, where we focus on books from a particular year, reading and reviewing and sharing ideas about the kind of works published then.
Our next featured year will be 1951, and the week is from 10-16 April – as you can see in the snazzy badge above, designed by Simon (who is much better at these things than I am).
1951 promises to have a wonderful selection of books to choose from – I’ve already got a pile of possibles, all of which I already own (yay!) and which I’ll share in a later post. As Simon says (ha!) these ‘clubs’ are such fun, and it’s lovely to hear what people are reading, what they think, and what unusual and interesting titles they come up with.
So do join in with the 1951 Club, use the badge above when you post, and let’s all share some wonderful bookish experiences! 🙂

Lovely! I’m looking forward to it already. 🙂
Mar 25, 2017 @ 07:58:11
Me too! Though looking at the books I have, the danger is that I’ll just read a load of crime books!!
Mar 25, 2017 @ 09:18:46
Nothing wrong with that!
Mar 25, 2017 @ 16:50:18
Not at all! :)))
Mar 25, 2017 @ 09:46:06
Really looking forward to this – thanks to you and Simon for organising 🙂
Mar 25, 2017 @ 16:50:09
It should be fun – I have some fascinating books on the pile! 🙂
Mar 25, 2017 @ 10:07:48
I’ve got one or two earmarked for this one. I actually found it more difficult finding books for this year than previuos years. Possibly because I’ve already read quite a few already.
Mar 25, 2017 @ 16:48:49
Well, you can always re-read – I think at least one of my titles will be a book I’ll be happy to revisit!
Mar 25, 2017 @ 10:51:35
Yay! I’m quite surprised that I have more options for 1951 than all the previous years we’ve done.
Mar 25, 2017 @ 16:48:05
I’ve found a surprising amount on my shelves, which is very satisfying – and some are books which I’d be happy to have an excuse to re-read! 🙂
Mar 25, 2017 @ 11:16:34
A quick search of my shelves shows I have three titles from this year – way better than all the previous years you’ve highlighted.
Mar 25, 2017 @ 16:47:31
Excellent! Hope to see you joining us! 🙂
Mar 25, 2017 @ 17:29:00
I will definitely be joining in. When Simon posted I thought I had two or three books tbr that would qualify. Now I know I definitely have three maybe four. With possible re-reads too I am almost spoiled for choice.
I have They came to (from?) Baghdad by Agatha Christie Tempest Tost by Robertson Davis (I think) and Olivia Manning’s School for Love. I may also have The End of the Affair by Graham Green . Looking forward to seeing what everyone picks.
Mar 25, 2017 @ 19:46:09
I’m tempted by the Agatha too – and several other crime novels. So glad you can join in!
Mar 25, 2017 @ 19:12:42
I hope I can join if I’m able to find books from that year. The badge looks great.
Mar 25, 2017 @ 19:45:30
It does, doesn’t it? Simon is very clever! Hope you can find a book to join – I’ve found a big pile which appeal!
Mar 25, 2017 @ 19:50:59
I had a look. I’ve read a lot of books from that year already but I’ve still got some. So, hopefully.
Mar 25, 2017 @ 19:55:16
Excellent! 🙂
Mar 25, 2017 @ 22:00:43
1951 seems to have been a great year for books! I’m still deciding what to read but definitely want to join in. 🙂
Mar 26, 2017 @ 11:54:08
Excellent – there are so many to pick from! 🙂
Mar 27, 2017 @ 15:43:11
I’m aiming for something as well, which might be a reread depending on the mood in early April: so nice to know that’s an option!
Mar 27, 2017 @ 20:13:05
Re-reads are good – I’m pretty sure I’ll go for at least one myself!
Mar 27, 2017 @ 16:11:18
The only book I have from 1951 is Hannah Arendt’s The Origin of Totalitarianism. I’m not sure I’m in the mood for that one. I’ll have to keep looking for an alternative…
Mar 27, 2017 @ 20:12:45
There’s quite a lot of nice crime if you’d prefer that… 🙂
Mar 27, 2017 @ 21:32:49
Ooh, I’ve always wanted to join in with one of these. Right, time to see if I have anything that fits the bill!
Mar 28, 2017 @ 09:29:09
Excellent! The more the merrier! 🙂
Mar 28, 2017 @ 09:37:35
My Cousin Rachel! Yay!
Mar 28, 2017 @ 09:39:37
Fab! :)))
Mar 28, 2017 @ 07:56:38
I’m in! I’ve been saving School for Love by Olivia Manning just for the occasion, and I also have a couple of classic mysteries in my ebook queue in the library in case I have time for a second book — They Came to Baghdad by Agatha Christie and Night at the Vulcan by Ngaio Marsh. I’ve never read anything by Marsh and this is #16 in the series but it usually doesn’t matter. It’s been awhile since I read anything by Dame Agatha so that might be fun too.
Thanks for organizing this, I’ve been looking forward to it!
Mar 28, 2017 @ 09:09:48
Excellent! I shall be reading They Came to Baghdad too – I think it might even be a Christie I haven’t read!
Mar 28, 2017 @ 15:08:13
So, anyone is free to participate?
Mar 28, 2017 @ 15:30:09
Absolutely anyone – you just read from the year, post on your blog if you have one, or comment on my or Simon’s blogs. It’s always wonderful to see what suggestions for reading people come up with and share thoughts of specific books! 🙂
Mar 28, 2017 @ 19:23:42
Sweet. The book I have in mind comes highly recommended by a trusted, but not-so-reliable source: my husband.
Mar 28, 2017 @ 21:01:21
Fab – look forward to hearing your thoughts! 🙂
Mar 28, 2017 @ 23:15:33
It’s going to include something by Beckett, I imagine. Just off to see the relevant Wikipedia page.
Mar 29, 2017 @ 08:57:35
Excellent – the more variety the better!
Mar 29, 2017 @ 16:59:04
I fear that I’ve read all the ones I’d want to read, such a shame! Then again, I was swearing off book challenges this year … But do enjoy!
Mar 29, 2017 @ 19:54:56
We will – maybe you can join in with the next one! 🙂
Apr 02, 2017 @ 02:17:50
I am thrilled to discover this event and have just downloaded Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Letters and Papers from Prison, a collection which began in April 1943, and was first published in 1951. It will be a lovely book to read before Easter, and in perfect timing with your event. Thank for hosting (and posting about it)!
Apr 02, 2017 @ 12:10:48
Fabulous! Half the fun is discovering new books and hearing what people are reading. Glad you can join in!
Apr 07, 2017 @ 17:03:07
Tempus fugit!
It’s already time for the club… Thanks for organizing – it’s an interesting year. I’m in!
Apr 07, 2017 @ 17:06:23
It does, doesn’t it? I can’t believe it’s time already. Glad you’re joining us! 🙂

I’m in! My 1951 book is Enid Bagnold’s The Loved and Envied. Because of seasonal extra-busy-ness, I gave myself a head start, and am about half way through, and I must say that this novel is getting better by the page. Keen to read all the other reviews. I’ll link mine when I finish reading and have a moment to organize my thoughts into a post.
Apr 09, 2017 @ 18:13:50
Excellent – that’s a title I hadn’t picked up on! Yes, a head start is a good thing – look forward to your thoughts!
Apr 09, 2017 @ 19:17:09
I’m thinking of joining in this time and reading Beckett’s Molloy! Thanks for organizing this!
Apr 09, 2017 @ 19:19:30
Welcome! I’ll be keen to hear your thoughts!
