Lizzy and I are delighted to be hosting #ReadIndies for the fourth time. Not only does it give us good reason to support our favourite indie publishers more visibly than usual, but it’s also a perfect excuse to discover new ones. It is with discovery in mind that this year’s badge has been populated with the 41 micro publishers (publishers with 5 employees or less) that have, under the aegis of Will Dady of Renard Press, gathered together to form the Indie Press Network.
There are some interesting catalogues to be explored here. Not that there is a restriction on reading books from these publishers, though I will looking to incorporate 1 or 2 new-to-me publishers into the mix. As always you can read as widely as you please for the event within the boundaries of the two rules:
- Reading material (whichever format, whichever language) must come from publishers who are currently operating as independents.
- Self-published titles are not eligible.
If you’re looking for further suggestions, check out the indices from previous year: 2021, 2022, 2023
Will you join us?

Thank you so much to Lizzy and you for organising this – I’ve just sent off an article about indie publishing (especially the so-called micro-publishers) and they are truly in a precarious position, yet doing so much of the heavy lifting in terms of discovering more interesting and varied writing.

Happy to co-host – I think this is such an important event and totally agree with you. The indies will take a chance and seek out books which the mainstream publishers wouldn’t touch, and there are so many gems. Look forward to hearing what you might choose for the month!

Fantastic, Karen (and Lizzy, of course!), what a super theme to maintain. Will I join in? I may well do so if I can find something that fits the bill, but in conjunction with my intention to #ReadRandomly I would do so without fanfare and as the mood takes me!

I see from this page – http://www.indiepublishers.co.uk/publisher-directory/ – that I either own or have access to quite a few titles from just these UK publishers, so I have no real excuse, have I?!

I’m really glad you’ve decided to do this again! I confess, I don’t sign up for challenges, but I absolutely love the idea, and I do like learning about new indie publishers (or new-to-me, anyway!). I can’t wait to see what great reads I learn about this year!
