Just a quick reminder that on Monday 18th April the #1954Club kicks off!!
If you’re new to this reading event, it’s a simple and lovely one co-hosted by Simon at Stuck in a Book (whose idea these clubs were) and myself! Basically, a year is chosen and for a week we read, discover, explore and discuss books from that year. It’s very low pressure – you can read as much or as little as you like, as long as it’s from the year – and anyone is free to join in.
You can leave thoughts on your own blog, Instagram, Goodreads or indeed in the comments of either of our blogs (or both if you want to!) I shall have a dedicated page where I will collect together links to posts, so please do leave a comment there if I miss your contribution! (You can take a look at some of the previous years on my master page for the clubs).
As you can see from the image of just a few possible titles I pulled out, there are many options for 1954 – it really was a bumper year! So do join in if this appeals to you, and we’ll so look forward to seeing what bookish treasures you dig out! 😀

Yep, like you I’ve lined up some Tolkien and Lewis to read, and if I can find our copy of Hergé’s Destination Moon (I think a grandchild may have it) I’ll stick that in too!

Ah, the Tintin is a good idea – I don’t know if I have that one…

I’ve just realised that a book I was given as a kid by my father, The Adventures of Dunno and His Friends (published by the Soviet Foreign Languages Publishing House) by the Ukrainian author Nikolai Nosov was issued in 1954… I’m not sure I’ll have time to whizz through these by next weekend. 🙁 But I can read them for Brona’s Understanding Ukraine event which goes on till September! 🙂

Oh, excellent find! And even if you don’t read it for the club, it sounds a fascinating book to read at any time! 🙂🙂

Although I have at least five novels from 1954 on my shelves, I fear I won’t get to read more than The Horse and His Boy which will, of course serve dual purpose for the #Narniathon21. (If I have time, I’ll read A Kiss Before Dying by Ira Levin, which has long languished on the shelves).
Apr 16, 2022 @ 15:44:59
Not to worry – I won’t get to everything I want to read for the year either, but it’s been fun gathering possibles!!
Apr 16, 2022 @ 12:31:33
I really like this idea! And I know you’ll come up with some great reads, too 1954, here we come!
Apr 16, 2022 @ 15:44:30

Me too – it looks like a bumper year, and I love to discover new books and authors!!
Apr 16, 2022 @ 18:36:11
No matter what year you pick there always seems to be an Agatha Christie as an option.
Apr 16, 2022 @ 18:45:29
I know! That woman was so prolific!!!
Apr 16, 2022 @ 19:25:57
Really looking forward to seeing what everyone reads. The fifties are such a good decade for reading.
Apr 16, 2022 @ 19:48:14
It is – we could have picked any year, really, but this one looks particularly good!!!
Apr 17, 2022 @ 02:15:01
I always enjoy seeing which books everyone has found to read for your designated years, some are such surprises!
Apr 17, 2022 @ 15:30:02
I know – that’s half the fun, isnt it? Sometimes the most interesting and unexpected titles turn up!!
Apr 17, 2022 @ 02:33:06
I just finished reading “ Bonjour Tristesse’ in anticipation of next week and I am going to dig into an Agatha Christie next. I am traveling the whole week and I hope I’ll find the time to blog about one of the books at least.
Apr 17, 2022 @ 15:29:26
Oh excellent! I love the Sagan, and it’s always good to have an excuse to read Christie. Look forward to your thoughts!

I love this year as LOTR has to be one of my all time favourite books however a quick google search has revealed some other favourites too. I think I might have a nostalgic week rereading old favourites.
Apr 18, 2022 @ 18:22:28
It’s such a good year, and I love LOTR as well so was very happy we chose 1954. There’e nothing better than some lovely nostalgic rereads!
