Just popping in here today with a quick reminder that Monday 10th April sees the start of the latest Club reading week I’m co-hosting with Simon at Stuck in a Book. If you’re new to these, Simon and I have been running this twice-yearly event for quite some time – you can find dedicated pages for each of the years linked at the top of my blog – and they’re great fun!
The basic idea is that we choose a date, and all spend the week reading, exploring, enjoying and sharing books from the year in question. It’s a fun event with no pressure because you can choose anything from the year and read as much or as little as suits you. You can share on your blogs, Twitter, Instagram, Goodreads, in comments on our blogs or a platform of your choice. All that matters is enjoyment!
I’ll have a dedicated page going live on Monday and will look forward very much to hearing about the books everyone is reading! Hope you can join us! ππ

For once, I am ahead of the game. I have finished my book and am just tidying up my review!
(This is unlikely ever to happen again so I am taking the opportunity to boast while I can.)
Apr 07, 2023 @ 13:51:09
Boast away! I’m impressed!! ππ
Apr 07, 2023 @ 10:27:43
Really looking forward to it π
Apr 07, 2023 @ 13:50:50
Me too! π
Apr 07, 2023 @ 11:28:22
Can’t wait! I’ve already read my first book and am in the middle of a second. I’ll look forward to seeing what everyone else reads.
Apr 07, 2023 @ 13:50:33
Excellent! Look forward to your posts!!
Apr 07, 2023 @ 12:08:25
Oh, this ought to be a great time! I’m very much looking forward to the discussion; 1940 was a great year for crime fiction!
Apr 07, 2023 @ 13:50:21
It was, Margot – it’s another one of those weeks where I could have read nothing but GA crime. And wouldn’t that have been fun!!!
Apr 07, 2023 @ 17:08:56
I am researching a 1940 Monday Musings as my main contribution, and I hope to find a short story to read as that’s about the best I can do. One day I hope to do an actual book, but short stories are good!
Apr 08, 2023 @ 16:11:48
That will be great – whatever you can fit in! And short stories are marvellous to have included!
Apr 07, 2023 @ 17:43:43
Woohoo, can’t wait!
Apr 08, 2023 @ 16:11:24
Me neither!!!
Apr 07, 2023 @ 17:57:27
Looking forward; I’m doing better than last time in terms of having my first book almost read, but not as well as 1976 when two of three reviews were done by this point π
Apr 08, 2023 @ 16:11:11
Excellent- whatever you can share will be wonderful – look forward to seeing what you’ve chosen!
Apr 07, 2023 @ 18:43:34
Looking forward to this as ever – I hope to contribute at least a couple despite my International Booker reading.
Apr 08, 2023 @ 16:10:36
Excellent! Will very much look forward to what you bring to the table, Grant! π
Apr 07, 2023 @ 20:00:55
Hurrah!
Apr 08, 2023 @ 16:10:06
Indeed!!
Apr 07, 2023 @ 20:04:57
I wish I could join as before. My choices would be The Man Who Loved Children by Christina Stead and You Can’t Go Home Again by Thomas Wolfe. The Heart is a Lonely Hunter is a favourite of mine and could always withstand a re-read.
Apr 08, 2023 @ 00:54:49
Ooh, I hope someone does do Stead, I’m always fascinated by what readers think of it, because I found it a challenge and yet strangely compelling.
And yes, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter… I did that at uni and was hooked.
Apr 08, 2023 @ 16:05:47
I’ll be interested to see what anyone says about Stead because I’ve struggled with her a bit!!
Apr 09, 2023 @ 02:13:36
I didn’t like The Man Who Loved Children. (I think) I understood what she was on about, but it was like being beaten over the end by the furious dialogue. But I’ve really liked her other books, especially The Little Hotel.
Apr 09, 2023 @ 18:28:17
I’ve read a couple but it was Letty Fox which finished me off!!!
Apr 10, 2023 @ 00:42:20
LOL I haven’t read that one!
Apr 10, 2023 @ 14:51:35
Well, if you do, I’ll be keen to hear your thoughts….
Apr 08, 2023 @ 16:09:55
Some interesting choices there! Wolfe has been on the shelves for so long, and I’ve always stalled with him – must give him another try!
Apr 07, 2023 @ 20:31:52
I have started reading already, so I can hopefully review during the club week. Two DSP books, I started the second this morning. Love a chance to read DSP.
Apr 08, 2023 @ 16:09:18
Hurrah! Glad you have books which fit, and always good to squeeze in some DSP!
Apr 07, 2023 @ 22:09:16
I do have an Upton Sinclair in the TBR that would fit but I’m going to struggle to get to it – am still embroiled in the Amitav Ghosh
Apr 08, 2023 @ 16:08:41
Oh, that would be interesting! One of those authors I’ve always meant to read but just not got round to!!
Apr 07, 2023 @ 22:14:10
I forgot about Strangers and Brothers which has been in the darker recesses of a bookcase for more than 20 years. It’s quite short I think so it might be feasible to read that one
Apr 08, 2023 @ 16:06:45
Having snuck ahead a little with my reading, I’d highly recommend it… ππ

I’m really looking forward to seeing all the choices from this bountiful year!
Apr 08, 2023 @ 16:06:10
It’s a good one, isn’t it? Can’t wait to see what people read!!
Apr 08, 2023 @ 08:44:11
Thanks to Helen @shereadsnovels I have finally narrowed the list of books I am reading for this event. It’s such a bumper year, I kept getting confused until I went over to Helen’s list and finally focused.
Apr 08, 2023 @ 16:05:22
That’s grand! Helen’s list is really helpful and there are some wonderful books to choose from!
Apr 08, 2023 @ 17:38:34
Waiting for it to begin. Have already done some reading and reviewing:)
Apr 09, 2023 @ 18:28:41
Excellent! Will look forward to seeing what you’ve read!!
Apr 09, 2023 @ 12:41:49
One of these days I might join in but enjoy following you guys who are organisedππ€ π
Apr 09, 2023 @ 18:27:32
LOL, hopefully you’ll get plenty of interesting posts to read!!
Apr 09, 2023 @ 21:36:47
Looking forward to it! I’ve laid out my nefarious plans…and highlighted a few old 1940 books on the blog here:

I’ve read two with reviews poised to go, and starting a third which I should get finished and reviewed within the week – super organised for once as I’ve (finally) realised that the key with week challenges is getting them started early! Is there a main post to link to or should I link to this one?
Apr 10, 2023 @ 14:50:21
Fab, that’s great Liz! I will pick them up because I subscribe to your blog, but if you want you can leave a comment on my dedicated page which is here: https://kaggsysbookishramblings.wordpress.com/club-pages/1940-club/
Apr 10, 2023 @ 14:57:01
Excellent, thank you – I found that eventually and have linked to it in my post for Wednesday, and will do for my third one (I’ve almost finished The Stone of Chastity already as I just can’t put it down!).
Apr 10, 2023 @ 15:02:42
Fab! Glad you’re having good reads for the week! π
