Phew! So we reached the end of the #1977club in one piece and having read, discussed and discovered some very interesting titles! In the end, as always, I ran out of time and didn’t read all I wanted to – but these are the ones I *did* read:
Four books in total, only one of which was a fail (the Carter). Rediscovering favourite authors like Brautigan and Plath was a joy, and exploring Margaret Atwood’s early stories just served to reinforce what an excellent writer she really is. Despite my issues with the Carter, I *will* try other titles by her – if for no other reason than to prove I haven’t turned into a soppy old wuss!!
Alas, I didn’t get to the Barthes; but that will remain on the TBR and hopefully be read at some time in the future. If you’re still reading from 1977, please do leave links on the 1977 page – it’s been wonderful seeing what everyone else has been reading and watching the discussions. Here’s to the next club, whichever year that may be…. ๐

Congratulations on co-hosting another very successful club. Having worked on the ~ReadingRhys event a couple of years ago, I know how much work it takes to co-ordinate these things. I’m glad I was able to participate.
Are you planning to going back to the ’20s for the next one?
Apr 23, 2018 @ 09:10:05
Thank you! Yes, there *is* a fair amount of work invovled but it’s fun. Only twice a year, though – I don’t think I could manage any more often! ๐ As for the next one – watch this space (and Simon’s blog!)

It’s been a great week full of interesting reads. A big thank you to you and Simon for hosting!
Apr 23, 2018 @ 09:09:14
It’s been fun – and as I always find, such an interesting variety of books! ๐
Apr 23, 2018 @ 09:31:44
Well done! I was pleased I managed to read three books for the ’77 Club. Admittedly they were short ones but for me it’s writing the review that takes time and effort. Originally I was going to read ‘The Flounder’ by Gรผnter Grass but I didn’t feel like trying to rush through it.
Apr 23, 2018 @ 10:13:14
I think you did really well with three! I always bite off more than I can chew with these reading weeks – I start early but not early enough and rushing a book is not a good idea! Next time I obviously need to begin reading a month ahead…

Well done, Karen. It’s been a great success – so many bloggers have taken part. Give yourself a big pat on the back. I look forward to discovering the year of your next reading club! ๐
Apr 23, 2018 @ 13:44:41
*pats back* :)) It *has* been a real success and such fun! Roll on the next reading year!
Apr 23, 2018 @ 10:36:20
Great pleased I got to take part again
Apr 23, 2018 @ 13:43:59
Glad you could join in Stu!
Apr 23, 2018 @ 12:49:40
Thanks to you and Simon for hosting again! The two books I read both turned out to be great choices. I’ll look forward to seeing which year is next. ๐
Apr 23, 2018 @ 13:43:47
It was fun, and I’m glad you enjoyed your reads. As for next year – watch this space!!

Thanks to you and Simon for hosting again. I’m glad I ran out of time for Angela carter and read and reviewed Botho Strauss instead. ๐
Apr 23, 2018 @ 13:43:05
LOL! Yes, I think time was on your side there! ๐
Apr 23, 2018 @ 16:39:39
Well done! As ever a successful club week. I really enjoyed my Olivia Manning and the Atwood I read while not a favourite of hers was still well worth reading. Shame about the Carter though in the past I have very much enjoyed The Magic Toyshop, The Bloody Chamber Stories, Wise Children and Nights at the Circus. So she is certainly worth going back to.
Apr 23, 2018 @ 21:00:16
It *was* a successful one, wasn’t it? I’m sure I’ll get over the Carter and find a better one of hers!
Apr 23, 2018 @ 18:56:09
What’s wrong with soppy old wusses?
Apr 23, 2018 @ 20:59:26
LOL! Not a lot, I suppose. If we were all soppy old wusses the world might be a moe peaceful place!
Apr 23, 2018 @ 19:21:26
Thanks for hosting this, I’m looking forward to the next one!
Apr 23, 2018 @ 20:37:19
Well done! You managed twice what I did this time around – but what a wonderful selection of books we got reviewed! Definitely more new-to-me authors than any of the other clubs we’ve done.
Apr 23, 2018 @ 20:58:19
I still would have liked to read more, but never mind! And yes – a really wide selection this time which is excellent.
Apr 23, 2018 @ 23:32:41
I always enjoy this event. It was interesting to read everyone’s reviews.
Apr 24, 2018 @ 10:16:35
That’s one of the most important things for me too – to see what everyone else finds is fascinating!
Apr 25, 2018 @ 09:39:18
So, Karen, alas I didn’t make it. I am still, somewhat sadly, in my chunkster re-read. The fourth novel by someone whose first three i have ‘re read several times. I do recall being not as taken with this one, when I first read it, and am understanding why…….I tend not to blog anything i ‘m not strongly enamoured by. So it may not get reviewed at all here – or even finished, as I keep being distracted by other reading. Sighs.
Apr 25, 2018 @ 11:54:58
Not to worry! I didn’t read all I wanted and life tends to get in the way sometimes. And all the other books I wanted to read at the same time distracted me too! I wish I had more time for chunksters nowadays…
