Yes, those of you who are paying attention will realise that it’s nearly time for another reading club, hosted by Simon at Stuck in a Book and myself! We’ve been gradually making our way through the decades of the 20th century, choosing a year from each one to focus our reading upon, and we’ve reached the 1960s! We’ve also shuffled the dates on by a week, and the club will be taking place from 30th October to 5th November – so do join in.
The year in question, 1968, was chosen by voting this time, and I was a little uncertain at first what I would find to read from it. I needn’t have worried…
A dig in my stacks revealed that not only had I read a lot of books from that year, I also owned a lot of unread volumes. So the hard part will be deciding what to choose, whether to do lots of re-reading or whether to strike out with volumes entirely new!
I hope lots of you will want to join in with us, reading books from 1968, sharing your thoughts on them and passing on recommendations for titles you think are worth tracking down. I’ll do a separate page for the 1968 club with links to all posts, so don’t forget to let me know in the comments what you’re reading and where we can find it – the more, the merrier! Check out Simon’s post here and happy reading! :))

I’ve missed out on the earlier years, but u will definitely need to scour my shelves to see if I have anything from 1968. Looking forward to it.

I’ve been regretting letting my reading of children’s fiction slip and there were some wonderful books published that year. Are re-reads acceptable?

Re-reads are absolutely fine – I may well be doing some myself!!

I know what I’ll be doing tonight: searching for 1968 books. I just found some quotes I had written down when reading my 1951 choice, The Cruel Sea, a book I would not have read without the Club. So let’s see what there is to discover for the next one.

I had a hunt around in the second hand bookshop today for some of these titles but came away empty handed. Not to worry, the library will be sure to have something or there is always Abe Books….

I am planning on reading Eva Trout by Elizabeth Bowen. I am looking for other things among the piles though I do have By the Pricking of my thumbs by Agatha Christie for re-reading possibly.

By The Pricking of My Thumbs is such fun – I re-read a while back. I have Eva Trout too – so many to choose from! Look forward to your thoughts!

I am either going to read Marian Engels No Clouds of Glory or Sinclair Ross’ collection of stories Lamp at Noon, trying to squeeze some of Canada-in-1968 into the mix. Some other options on my shelves are peeking at me from your teaser stacks though, a few favourites we have in common, which might be a more inviting read (Taylor, etc.). Still time to choose!
