I’m always happy to be given books as gifts, but having a book token or gift card of some type is good too… Youngest child kindly gifted me a Waterstones card this Christmas and so as she was off back to university I took the opportunity to spend it yesterday. Any excuse for a nice browse round a bookshop is to be welcomed, and the local Waterstones is well stocked with a variety of smaller presses as well as the mainstream titles. In the end, though, I picked up a volume that’s on my wishlist, as well as a lovely little desk calendar in the sale:
There have been a couple of titles popping through the post this week too:
“In Russia” was an essential purchase as apparently it features memories of Valentin Kataev (and material on him in English seems thin on the ground). As for the other title – there was a reason for buying it which will eventually become clear…. 🙂
And finally a couple of gorgeous composition style notebooks. You can never have too many notebooks and these two were quite unbelievably £1 each in Tiger. Amazing!
