Yesterday was Mothering Sunday in the UK, and I was rather spoiled I must say (even though all three offspring were away – two local ones visiting Middle Child in Leicester). They left gifts and instructions with Other Half and so I was treated to breakfast in bed and pressies anyway!
Eldest and Youngest got me lovely things (book tokens, notebooks, things from my wish list) but Middle Child rather surpassed herself by finding four lovely Green Viragos I don’t have – and here they are:
I was chuffed to say the least – the Willa Cather sounds fascinating; I’ve always wanted to read “Roman Fever”; the Molly Keane is one I don’t have; and I’m trying to get the set of Antonia Whites so this helps a lot!
Well done offspring!

That’s a super collection of VMCs — a couple of them by favorite authors (Wharton, Keane), and I share your enthusiasm about owning the complete set of Antonia Whites. I read One of Ours a while back, although not in VMC form. It was good — I like Willa Cather — but the edition I read included a major spoiler on the book jacket “blurb” which pretty much ruined the reading experience for me. Hopefully Virago was more careful.

Oooh, thanks for the warning about the Cather – I will be very careful about the cover! I must admit I’m now avoiding most introductions to books I haven’t read before – and I still haven’t recovered from one of the recent editions of Animal Farm which has a very spoilerful quote on the cover….

I have to confess to reading introductions after the reading of the novel just because they often tell you the story, albeit by accident.

Very wise!

Lovely, can’t wait to hear about those Viragos!

Middle child has done very well, with one or two books that aren’t so easy to find. I’ll always have a soft spot for Willa Cather as she was the author who really fixed the idea that I must always pick up green books in my head, many years ago.

Yes, I think she did find some treats there. Green covers are definitely the loveliest!

Nicely done! Sounds like it was a Mother’s Day full of lovely treats for you. I’m coveting your VMCs 🙂

Yes, I was most spoiled!
